Big news! “Refuse to Be Ordinary®” is now an official trademark of Pata Pata Jewelry, and we are ecstatic! And we could not have done it without our amazing tribe members like you. We heart you so big!
In the spirit of celebrating this important news, we have a sort of special post for you all. So, settle in and read on!
Authentic Self Expression
The interwebs and social media teaches us a great deal about acceptable beliefs, opinions, and, especially, personal tastes. The problem is, many people struggle to do what we’ve done, and really grasp on to the connection with themselves. This can lead to lots of self-doubt, and a fear of what society thinks of you.
As a result, many of us don’t always feel comfortable staying true to our expressions of self, even on our own social media profiles or favorite forums. This fear leads to people putting up facades and “fronts” that they feel are socially “acceptable” to present online. That, in turn, creates the fear that they cannot genuinely express who and what they are.

Wanna tip? Don’t let that fear win! Remember the spirit of “Refuse to Be Ordinary,” because it does not just apply to the way you express yourself behind closed doors, or with only your smallest inner circle. It also applies to the way you present yourself to the world! If you love the dark and demented, share that love! If you are into exotic pets that “normal” people would find scary or dangerous, let your love for those animals known with pride! If you are an activist or advocate for something that is the focus of controversy in society and/or online, stand your ground fearlessly. No matter what the case may be, Refuse to Be Ordinary, always!
Now, we know that it might take a little time of dipping your toes into the “Refuse to Be Ordinary” interweb pool. We understand, and it’s ok! Even with the support of a tribe, it can still be scary to flaunt your uniqueness in spite of the fear you may feel of how society may perceive you. So, take as much time as you need, but ALWAYS try to keep dipping in those toes until the water at last feels comfortable and natural to you. We will always be here to support your efforts, and to remind you of just how awesome you are!
ONCE you have jumped all in, however, do NOT forget to shine out loud, and SUPER proud! That’s right! Feel free to flaunt your uniqueness ALL up in social media’s face! (Ok, maybe don’t exactly rub it in, especially if you wouldn’t want someone else to do it to you, but make it well known that you’re proud to be loud! There’s no shame in your game)! Whether you join in with like-minded people or people with similar interests and styles, or you just decorate your own page with your pride, is up to you. The important thing is to stay true to your uniqueness, and let the world know that you do not apologize for who you are, or for displaying it so… well, loudly!

Our journey with “Refuse to Be Ordinary” has been quite an adventurous and lifechanging one. And we owe it all to our decision to… well, to refuse to be ordinary! Of course, it was not always easy. There are many ways society can intimidate us into thinking that we should fear expressing ourselves to the fullest extent, and plenty of people who were just in general quick to tell us why what we think, and our uniqueness was wrong, dumb, etc.
However, now that we’ve achieved making this a trademark, we have a renewed sense of accomplishment and pride! And we want to share that with everyone in our tribe, so that you can all feel this way about yourselves, too! Remember, you are not posting or writing things online to prove anything to the world. You are doing it for yourself, because it is what you love, and because you are not afraid to show how special and awesome you are. Remember, also, that the number of “likes,” or comments you get on whatever you post is not important. It simply means that perhaps there were only that many people who saw it that day that share similar interests! It doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with what you posted (and even if people thought so, you don’t really care, don’t forget!), or that you should stop posting about and on the things that make you, you. All that matters is that you feel comfortable in your skin, and that you Refuse to Be Ordinary!!
